Hospital Corporation of America Among "World's Most Ethical Companies"
Issue: May 2010
The parent company of two local community hospitals—Regional Medical Center of San Jose and Good Samaritan Hospital—was named by The Ethisphere Institute as one of the world’s 100 most ethical companies. Hospital Corporation of America(HCA) joined Adobe, Cisco Systems, Google, Symantec, Granite Construction and Whole Foods in the annual listing recognizing companies that go beyond legal minimums and introduce innovative ideas benefiting the public in sector-leading ways.
Ethisphere reviewed nominations from companies in more than 100 countries and 36 industries. The methodology for the World’s Most Ethical Companies includes reviewing codes of ethics, litigation and regulatory infraction histories; evaluating the investment in innovation and sustainable business practices; looking at activities designed to improve corporate citizenship; and studying nominations from senior executives, industry peers, suppliers and customers.
HCA Chairman and CEO Richard Bracken credited the company’s workers, saying “Thousands of HCA employees work every day to help our patients, and they do it with diligence, compassion and integrity. These individuals have helped us to build an organizational culture that encourages high ethics.”
