Doctors Medical Center Earns Gold Seal of Approval Accreditation from the Joint Commission
Issue: April 2010
The Joint Commission, an independent, nationally recognized nonprofit healthcare accreditation organization, announced that Doctors Medical Center has earned its Gold Seal of Approval. The accreditation followed the September 2009 unannounced on-site evaluation of Doctors Medical Center’s compliance with the Commission’s rigorous standards for healthcare quality and safety.
“Joint Commission accreditation does not begin and end with the on-site survey,’ said Joseph A. Stewart, CEO of Doctors Medical Center. “It is a continuous process of weaving quality and safe care into the fabric of Doctors Medical Center’s daily operations.”
The Joint Commission accredits and certifies more than 16,000 healthcare organizations and programs in the United States. Joint Commission accreditation is recognized nationwide as a symbol of quality that reflects an organization’s commitment to meeting high performance standards. The accreditation process evaluates quality and safety within health care organizations, and identifies opportunities for improvement for organizations to continuously provide safe, high-quality care, treatment and service.
By demonstrating compliance at all levels with the Joint Commission‘s national standards for health care quality and safety, Doctors Medical Center has been awarded its full accreditation for the next 39 months. Other hospitals Doctors Medical Center that share the Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval accreditation include John Muir Medical Center, Alta Bates Summit Medical Center and Kaiser Foundation Hospitals Oakland/Richmond.
“We sincerely thank our physicians, nurses and all other hospital staff for helping achieve this coveted recognition,” said Stewart. “The survey outcome exemplifies the quality of our people who have persevered through an unusually tumultuous period of time. “Next, I hope to see our community embrace DMC with the knowledge that quality and safety are our utmost priority.”
