NorthBay Diabetes Education Program Earns Accreditation

Issue: November 2009

The Diabetes Self-Management Education Program at the NorthBay Center for Endocrinology and Diabetes in Vacaville has earned national accreditation from the American Association of Diabetes Educators (AADE). It is one of two programs in California and one of 40 nationally accredited sites by the AADE to date.

“Accreditation demonstrates that our program offers high quality education to our clients and helps consumers to identify these quality programs,” said Diabetes Educator Collette DaCruz, R.N., CDE.

The NorthBay diabetes education program originally received national accreditation in 2001 from the American Diabetes Association (ADA) and that recognition was renewed earlier this year. The ADA’s certificate assures that educational programs meet the national standards set for diabetes self-management education. The addition of a second accreditation by the AADE further validates the quality of the educational services provided by NorthBay’s Center for Endocrinology and Diabetes, said DaCruz.

“Diabetes has reached epidemic proportions and there are not enough accredited programs available to serve everyone,” DaCruz said.  “Our accreditation was made possible thanks to the ongoing efforts of our Diabetes Advisory Board, which has been instrumental in providing guidance and support for the program.” For more information, call 707-624-7999.
