Napa Valley Academy Awards Extravaganza Nets $20,000 for Queen of the Valley Medical Center's CARE Network Program

Issue: April 2009

The 21st annual Napa Valley Academy Awards Gala and Black T-shirt Extravaganza, held February 22 at Robert Mondavi Winery, raised more than $20,000 to benefit HIV, AIDS and other chronically ill patients served by Queen of the Valley Medical Center’s CARE Network.

The event featured viewing of the Academy Awards ceremony, samplings of cuisine from 30 Napa Valley restaurants, entertainment by actor-comedian Bob Sarlatte, silent and live auctions and dancing. Approximately 300 people attended the event.

Funds raised through the event provide an emergency fund for CARE Network patients. “The Care Network uses the monies to help meet basic needs of low income chronically ill patients, such as transportation, food, and shelter, so they can then better focus on managing their health,” said Dana Codron, Executive Director of Queen of the Valley’s Community Outreach Department.

Care Network provides free case management assistance to low-income patients living with chronic health conditions, including AIDS/HIV, cancer, heart failure, diabetes and lung disease. Services include home visits by nurses, social workers and behavioral health therapists. Staff provides disease and health education, medication management, assistance in accessing health care services, critical community resource linkages, and benefits counseling.
